After installing a 4.5 in OD seal assembly in a horizontal well in Alaska, an obstruction was preventing fracking, required to bring the well into production. A traditional lead impression block confirmed a large restriction, but the operator needed more detail to plan remedial action.
EV’s HD Memory camera was run on coiled tubing while pumping Nitrogen. Just after 15,138 ft a minor deformation is visible where the LIB scraped against the wall. Straight ahead a heart shaped outline confirms a severe collapse leaving a narrow passage on the low side of the pipe, verified by the high side indicator on the top right of the screen.
This video record allowed the operator to choose the correct mill and avoid kicking off from the collapsed BHA and milling through the casing wall. Another camera run later confirmed that milling was not resolving the issue and a contingency plan was implemented, saving precious time.
Traditional milling, without video assistance, could have resulted in hours of extended operations, and quite possibly, damage to the completion. Deciding to invest in EV’s Visual Analytics, resulted in cost savings and improved operating efficiencies.
