This video identifies the cause of a restriction with a 25 year old oil well in the North Sea and includes lots of interesting features. With live visual diagnostics the operator is able to identify hazards and make real-time decisions to improve the effectiveness of remediation.
The well had been shut in prior to running the e-line camera. The footage starts with the camera stationary above a gas lift valve. What is immediately obvious is the clarity of the produced water and oil flowing up the side of the tubing.
As we progress down we see heavy scaling, the SSD and a lost bowspring centraliser stuck in the tubing. Then we enter a perforated pup joint where the top perforations have been badly eroded over time. More heavy scaling can also be seen.
The camera shows bubbles of oil flowing up the well until the original, now heavily scaled up, perforations are reached where oil can be seen bubbling out of the top perforation.
Deeper in the well bubbles of oil continue to flow up the well as HUD is approached. There we can see oil bubbling through the fill at the bottom of the well. The bowspring that had earlier been dislodged also makes a re-appearance.
