This month’s video of the month comes from Australia where EV’s RT120 Drillpipe Camera was utilized to aid the fishing operations an operator was undertaking in a subsea completed well in which the operator was pulling the completion in order to sidetrack the well. The Optis® RT120 Camera System provides full hemispherical viewing via continuous rotate and tilt and is fitted with both a colour and black & white camera for flexibility. Infinitely variable LEDs allow enhanced imaging capability in low visibility fluids. The camera is typically run on drill pipe with a dome protector to protect the camera.

While pulling the completion, a number of control-line clamps failed to returned to surface leaving a fishing job as the next step. EV was mobilized to run the RT120 Drill-pipe Camera to inspect the subsea wellhead sealing faces for damage and locate any of the control line clamps.

Upon approaching the wellhead the first control line clamp came into view, wedged across the diameter of the well bore, just below the upper gasket face in the wellhead. The operator attempted to recover the fish with magnetics but was unsuccessful. The RT120 camera was rerun to determine the new hold-up depth of the fish. The fish was now positioned at the 10 ¾ casing hanger at approximately 219m.

By attaching a simple hook extending 30cm below the guard cage with the purpose of retrieving the fish to surface or knocking it and allowing it to fall below the intended sidetrack depth. During this operation the fish was dislodged from the 10 ¾ casing hanger allowing the operator to resume the recompletion program.
