This video features two key applications of EV’s downhole video cameras; assessing the wellbore prior to abandonment and identifying scale build-up. With the increased focus on well abandonment, operators are seeing the value in downhole video as both a pre-abandonment evaluation tool and as in this case, diagnosing problems during the abandonment process.
In this example the operator had been trying to abandon the well but was unable to get down due to unknown obstructions. 2 3/8” tubing was run in the well with EV’s downview and sideview electric line camera deployed through the tubing. This allowed the rig to circulate clear fluid with the camera in the wellbore.
The video was streamed from the wellsite directly to the customer’s office and as the video shows the cause of the hold-up was instantly apparent. The colour camera clearly shows the build-up of scale on the 7” casing walls and the bridge that has been caused by scale and debris. More proof that everything in the wellbore is not black and white!
With this information the customer was able to order chemicals immediately upon seeing the scale and then pump the chemicals to remove the scale and bridge saving considerable rig time and cost.
